Biography: The Life and Story of Bern

Bern Endres

Born 11-7-1964

Resident of California the Northern Part

I was born in Oroville California, the site of the Oroville Dam, which was being build at the time of my arrival. My father was a Civil Engineer working for the State Water Resources and an inspector on the Dam project. Oroville Dam at that time was listed as the tallest Earthen filled dam in the world. I grew up in the mountains east of the Oroville.

When I was old enough to start school, I attended a K-8th grade school named Yuba Feather Elementary School. This school was located up in the beautiful foot hills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range

The childhood life was lived in the mountains, just below the massive snow pack during the winter, and high enough up where the valley heat was not so severe. When I say just below the mountain snow pack, I am referring to when it did snow for the most part the snow didn't stay very long. But then again there were times when the snow fall was heavy (24-42 inches), which meant that instead of the snow falling and staying for a few days the snow would stay for weeks.

Once I graduated Elementary School I went to high school in the valley. The school I attended was named Marysville High School. The city of Marysville ahs been around since the gold rush days and during that time it was the gateway to the mining fields.

After graduating high school I acquired a job working in a local custom cabinet making company. Several years after starting with the company I was running the cabinet side of the business. I did this for 15 years. I also during that time signed up to be in the National Ski Patrol at Boreal Ridge Ski resort. Being on the Ski Patrol had its advantages. The main one was free skiing.

After the owner of the cabinet company decided to retire I started working for a plumbing company locally. After only a 6 months working there I became one of their main home remodels. With the previous years as a cabinet maker and many years of knowledge in the building trade they found that I was a very valuable asset to the company. Two years after I started I was hurt on the job and the owners decided to bring me into the office to maintain their computer systems and run there warehouse. I was in charge of setting up the inventory control system of the warehouse and 15 service trucks. I was in charge of purchasing and receiving of inventory. the stress was very high and I decided to move on to try working in a government job. I got a job working for the county of Nevada in the sanitation department. After only 6 months there I was let go because I was a threat to their way of not wanting to work. While I was there I acquired my Class A CDL driver's license.

I managed to get a job working in the LTL (Less than a Truck Load) trucking industry. For the past 6 years I have been driving truck. I currently drive from 60 miles north of Sacramento California to Medford Oregon and back every day. All though driving a truck is good pay it has little to be desired as mentally challenging, so I decided to go back to college and get my AS degree in Information Technology and then go for my BS in Software System engineering.
